At Glenfield Primary school, we aim to inspire and innovate children through learning about design and technology. Children are given the opportunity to investigate through developing a critical understanding of DT’s impact on daily life and the wider world.
DT in key stage one benefits from a variety of creative and practical activities to do with: designing, making and evaluating whilst using technical knowledge. The children work in a range of relevant contexts whilst being involved in a variety of creative and practical activities.
DT in key stage two is still very practical as children are taught the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to engage in a process of designing and making. They generate design ideas through discussion, they create through selecting from a wider range of tools and they evaluate by considering the views of others to improve their work.
At our school we also recognise the importance of nutrition and learning how to cook. We understand that instilling a love of cooking in pupils will also open a door to creativity and enjoyment in the kitchen. We want our children to understand where food comes from and apply the principles of a healthy and varied diet. We have an excellent design and technology room in our school which is well equipped with kitchen tools. We also have two mobile cooking trolleys that are used throughout the school.
