Our Curriculum

Glenfield Primary School provides a curriculum that is broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated to provide for varied abilities.  We provide a  variety of experiences to enable children to acquire appropriate skills, knowledge and understanding preparing them for today’s world. Through the provision of a stimulating environment, children will develop to their full potential academically, socially and physically. Parents are kept up to date about curriculum issues by means of a curriculum newsletter sent out each term by individual year groups. A copy of all year groups’ curriculum news is available in the Reception area and is added to each year group's website pages each term.

We teach programmes of study that meet the National Curriculum requirements issued by the DfE.

This National Curriculum comprises of three core subjects:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science

and foundation subjects:

  • History
  • Geography
  • Design and Technology
  • Art
  • Music
  • Physical Education (PE)
  • Computing
  • Religious Education
  • PSHE
  • French (KS2)

The teaching of Religious Education is statutory in all schools. It is taught as a subject outside the National Curriculum but following the Leicestershire Agreed Syllabus.

Foreign languages are a compulsory subject at KS2. We provide French lessons in KS2 within curriculum time.

At Glenfield Primary School, we place great emphasis on English and Maths as these underpin many of the other aspects of the taught curriculum. In order to engage children fully in the learning process. Opportunities are regularly sought to apply many of the skills to real life situations.

We seek to create opportunities for children to experience and excel in a range of activities that enhance and extend the National Curriculum. Children have opportunities both inside and outside the classroom e.g. using our woodland area, residential trips, educational visits, a variety of sporting events, visiting speakers and much more. We also have excellent after-school clubs.

When children leave Glenfield Primary School at the end of Year 6, they should be equipped with the full range of skills that enables them to become successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens.

Our long term plan for the whole school can be found below. To view specific subjects, please visit the subject pages.
