Our Curriculum

Curriculum Intent

At Glenfield Primary School, our curriculum is designed to inspire a love of learning, nurture curiosity and equip every child with the knowledge, skills and character they need to thrive—both now and in the future.

We believe that education should empower children academically, socially and emotionally. Our curriculum is ambitious, inclusive and carefully sequenced to ensure that all pupils, regardless of background or starting point, can achieve highly. It builds strong foundations in English and mathematics while offering a rich, broad and balanced experience across the full range of subjects.

At Glenfield Primary School, we aim to:

  • Provide a knowledge-rich curriculum that develops deep understanding and long-term retention

  • Foster curiosity, creativity and critical thinking

  • Promote resilience, independence and confidence

  • Celebrate diversity and promote respect, kindness and responsibility

  • Prepare children for the next stage of their education and for life in modern Britain

Our curriculum reflects our community and widens pupils’ horizons through meaningful experiences, high-quality texts, educational visits and enrichment opportunities. We are committed to developing the whole child, ensuring that academic success is matched by strong personal development and wellbeing.

Through high expectations, inclusive practice and a supportive learning environment, Glenfield Primary School strives to ensure that every child leaves us as a confident, capable learner ready to make a positive contribution to society.

Our four curriculum drivers shape all that we do:

Agency

We nurture critical thinkers who understand that their choices and actions can make a difference. Our curriculum enables children to explore how and why the world has changed over time and empowers them to become active citizens who contribute positively to their community and beyond.

Aspirations

We broaden horizons and raise ambitions. By introducing children to inspirational individuals from diverse backgrounds, we encourage them to aim high, develop resilience and understand the importance of hard work and determination. We want every child to believe they can achieve and succeed.

Inclusion

We value every individual and celebrate diversity within our school and local community. Inclusion is integral to our curriculum; children learn to appreciate difference, show empathy and recognise their role in creating a fair and respectful society. Every child is supported to achieve their full potential.

Healthy Lifestyles

We promote physical, emotional and mental wellbeing as essential foundations for learning and life. Our curriculum teaches children how to build healthy relationships, keep themselves safe and develop habits that support long-term wellbeing.

Curriculum Implementation

At Glenfield Primary School, our curriculum is implemented through a consistent and carefully structured lesson design. Every lesson follows five key stages to ensure learning is secure, progressive and inclusive for all pupils.

We begin with retrieval practice, strengthening memory and activating prior knowledge to support long-term retention.

This is followed by clear teacher modelling, where new learning is explicitly taught and demonstrated.

Pupils then move into guided practice, applying new knowledge with support before progressing to independent application, where they demonstrate understanding more autonomously.

Finally, learning concludes with purposeful assessment, allowing teachers to check understanding, address misconceptions and inform next steps.

This structured approach ensures high expectations, clarity and consistency across the school, enabling all pupils to build knowledge systematically and achieve exceptional outcomes.

Curriculum Impact

At Glenfield Primary School, part of the Flying High Partnership, the impact of our curriculum reflects our shared commitment to being unique, exceptional and sustainable.

We want children who attend Glenfield Primary School to be fully prepared for their next stage of education — equipped with the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to succeed and flourish. Our curriculum ensures that every child’s uniqueness is recognised and nurtured, enabling them to develop their individual strengths and talents.

By the end of their time with us, we aspire for all pupils to be:

Successful learners
Children who enjoy learning, make strong progress and achieve highly. Through an ambitious and carefully sequenced curriculum, pupils develop secure knowledge and skills that provide exceptional foundations for future learning.

Confident individuals
Children who lead safe, healthy and fulfilled lives. They understand the importance of physical, emotional and mental wellbeing, and make informed choices that support sustainable habits for life.

Responsible citizens
Children who make a positive contribution to society. They value diversity, act with integrity and understand how their actions can contribute to a more sustainable and inclusive world.

Through high expectations, inclusive practice and rich opportunities, our pupils leave Glenfield Primary School ready to embrace future challenges with confidence and purpose.
