At Glenfield Primary School, we aim to provide all children with a history education that gives them a sound understanding of Britain’s past and the wider world. We want to develop children’s curiosity and fascination alongside developing key historical skills such as enquiry, research, chronological awareness and questioning. We recognise that the study of History helps children to gain a sense of identity through acquiring knowledge of local, national and global significant events and achievements alongside understanding how a range of people’s lives have changed over time and the impact that this has had on our lives in the present day. In Key Stage 1, children learn about the lives and lifestyles of significant individuals and events within and beyond living memory. In Key Stage 2, pupils continue to develop a chronologically secure knowledge and understanding of British, local and world history. Children should ask questions and use methods of historical enquiry by using a wide range of historical sources.
