Parent Officer

The Role of Parent Officer at Glenfield Primary School

The role of a parent officer is to make effective links between the school and home and to develop a strong link with parents: ultimately, to increase children’s learning and thereby raise attainment. My goal is to help pupils, families understand the learning process and the curriculum requirements, and at the same time assist with issues, you may have.

In addition, it is my responsibility to organise training and workshops for parents as and when needed. These sessions will enable you to help your child at home with their reading, writing and maths.

I will be on hand and available during parents evenings and other schools events to support if necessary. Home visits can also be arranged, as we understand it is not always possible to attend and this will help to build vital links between school and home. My role also includes pastoral care within the school and promoting resilience and mindfulness in everyday life. The strategies I use can be discussed at any time.

I will be arranging coffee mornings and the purpose of these will be to provide parents with an opportunity to socialise/meet new people. We will discuss and share issues such as: parent worries, healthy lifestyles, recipe ideas, and family days out locally and share any special offers. Local professionals from within the school, such as the Senco will also be invited to attend the coffee mornings to share their expertise with you all. I will keep you all updated on the parent noticeboard, which is located in the reception area on a regular basis. Keeping you all posted with the latest school news including the school nursing team, local housing information and general family wellbeing tips. Any ideas from parents regarding future workshops for coffee mornings will be gratefully received.

I am also available at the school at these times for any advice, ideas or assistance you may need:
