September 2025 update

Year 6 have had a fantastic start to the term!

In English, we’ve been enjoying the book Infinite, which has inspired us to write imaginative diary entries and persuasive advertising leaflets.

In Science, we’ve started exploring electric circuits and learning how electricity flows.

Our History lessons have taken us closer to home as we’ve been discovering the fascinating history of Glenfield.

In PE, we’ve picked up our tennis rackets and begun practising new skills on the court.

It’s been a really positive start, and we’re excited for all the learning still to come!

October 2025 update

In Year 6, we have been exploring and developing our creativity across different subjects – such as English and Art. Publishing our advertising brochures, based on our class book ‘The Infinite’, required us to think carefully about what would make our writing look appealing to our target audience. We have created a display to showcase all our
amazing publications!
In art, we have been focusing on street art. We have taken inspiration from the natural world and have started working on creating murals to show the message ‘Look after Glenfield’. Take a look at us in action.

November 2025 update

Year 6 took a journey to the past whilst on our visit to the Glenfield Tunnel.
We had been learning all about how the village of Glenfield had changed over time – particularly looking at the significance and impact that the Glenfield Tunnel had on the area when it was first constructed.
Our knowledgeable tour guides consolidated our learning by explaining how it was used to improve the transportation of coal, increase the safety of roads, and enabled people to travel into the city.
We imagined what it would be like to be both a passenger and a worker on the railway line. It was a great experience!

December 2025 update

Year 6 have had a fantastic trip to the Warning Zone in Leicester, where the children learned important lessons about safety, decision-making and staying responsible in the real and online world.

January 2026 update

In History, we have been learning that the Suffragettes acted radically when advocating for women’s suffrage. Our freeze frames show some of the ways in which they gained the attention of the British government – including: chaining themselves to railings, setting fires, engaging in hunger strikes, vandalising property, damaging buildings, attacking politicians and protesting.
Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed creating their own visual representations of these historical events.

March 2026 update

Year 6 were very fortunate to have a visit from the Red Cross, who led a workshop all about first aid. The children worked together to act out different scenarios, showing the appropriate responses to a variety of injuries and health conditions. They also learnt how to perform CPR using ‘Dolly’, where they sang to the rhythm of ‘Staying Alive’ in order to successfully resuscitate the patient. Well done Year 6 for embracing this opportunity and learning some valuable life skills!
