September 2025 update

Year 1 have enjoyed working with Mr Leader from Metcalf Multisports to explore Fundamental Movement.
We have learnt how to listen and respond to instructions, how to move safely and efficiently, and have played lots of fun games!
We know how important it is to look before you move to keep everyone safe and we know how to be a good sports person by supporting our team mates.
We look forward to our PE lessons each week!

Year 1 had a fantastic time exploring the Botanical Gardens in Leicester as part of their plants topic in Science.
They made sculptures of trees using leaves, twigs and pine cones, discovered a range of exotic plants grown in glasshouses, and even got to plant their own cress seeds to grow with sun, water, soil and air.

October 2025 update

Year 1 enjoyed a wonderful Languages Day, exploring India! We learned to count to ten in Hindi, created colourful rangoli patterns, and enjoyed discovering more about Indian culture and traditions.
In our writing lessons, we’ve been playing with poetry and perfecting powerful phrases! Inspired by ‘Little Red Riding Hood,’ we created brilliantly bold alliterative baskets for Granny, brimming with wonderful words and creative imagination. We just can’t stop using alliteration!

November 2025 update

We’ve practised using the conjunction ‘and’ to join our ideas, as well as sequence words like ‘first,’ ‘next,’ and ‘finally’ to help us retell Not That Pet! We explored new vocabulary too—like ‘exotic’ to describe unusual animals, and ‘spluttered’ to show how a character might speak when surprised.
See our brilliant sentences and imaginative storytelling below!

In Maths, we explored 3D shapes by naming and describing objects like cubes, spheres, cones, and cylinders. We talked about faces, edges, and vertices, and hunted for shapes around the classroom. We enjoyed discovering how many 3D shapes appear in everyday life such as cylinders for our water bottles, cubes for dice and boxes and spheres for footballs and marbles.

January 2026 update

Year 1 have had lots of colourful fun in our Art lessons! We learned how to mix primary colours to make secondary colours. We discovered that yellow and red make orange, blue and red make purple, and blue and yellow make green. The best part was experimenting by mixing the colours on our hands – it was messy, exciting, and great fun!
In our Writing lessons, we have been enjoying the story The Bog Baby. Bog Baby is a little, blue creature with tiny wings and boggly eyes who lives in Bluebell Woods. We have been practising using prepositions to write
descriptive sentences about Bog Baby’s home. Look at some of our fabulous ideas!

February 2026 update

Year 1 have enjoyed exploring Mental Health Week and what it means to belong. We spoke about what is important to us such as our family, friends and school and made our own 'Belonging Map' artwork which we felt very proud of!
In RE, we have been learning about Judaism and we were able to look at Jewish artefacts and learn more about this interesting religion.
